SUMMARY:AOHNA Education Session - Waking Up to Fatigue Factors in the Workplace\, Live Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this unique approach for fatigue management that focuses on engaging and connecting on the topic of fatigue through education and awareness building. This awareness\, combined with fatigue related operational optimization\, allows for a foundation to communicate on the issue of fatigue and to develop processes to better manage the issue. \nDid you know…\n•  Fatigue is 4X more likely to cause worker impairment than drugs or alcohol\n•  A fatigued employee is 3X more likely to be involved in a workplace incident\n•  Fatigue is estimated to cause 20% of all vehicle fatalities\n•  Unmanaged fatigue contributes to diabetes\, obesity and heart disease\n•  On average\, fatigue is involved in 13% of all workplace incidents \nIt is true! \nYet this prevalent health and safety risk is still largely under-recognized in many workplaces. Even when fatigue is identified as a workplace hazard\, many supervisors and employees are not aware of existing best practices and personal mitigation strategies available to help manage it. \nFatigue can directly impact business goals through poor decision making\, absenteeism\, reduced productivity\, short and long-term benefit costs\, as well as reduced employee retention resulting in increased on-boarding and training costs.  Managing fatigue in the workplace\, however\, is not always an easy task. \nFatigue is an often intangible element related directly to human factors. As such\, it requires a comprehensive approach that recognizes both operational factors and the need for worker education and engagement. In high-risk industries fatigue has been shown to be a significant contributor to workplace incidents. Best practices for enhancing fatigue management in your workplace begins with developing a common understanding of what fatigue is and how to manage it. True fatigue safety culture means that everyone in the workplace must work collaboratively toward comprehensive fatigue management. \nBy the end of this training everyone will better understand the risks fatigue creates and will be empowered with the practical strategies\, tools and countermeasures needed to better manage fatigue at work and at home. \nKey Speaking Points:\n1.  The Issue: How Fatigue Impacts Safety and Health\n2.  Understanding the Basics: Fatigue 101\n3.  Workplace Issues and Barriers to Managing Fatigue\n4.  How to Assess Fatigue Risks\n5.  Managing Fatigue – Strategies & Best Practices \nPresenter:  Susan Sawatzky\, MA Ind. Psych.\, B. Ed\, CRSP\, HSA \nSusan Sawatzky\, MA Ind. Psych.\, B. Ed\, CRSP\, HSA\, Cert. Psych. SUMMARY:Indigenous Communities\, Healthcare and Trust with the Current System - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:With Celina Sqwasulwut Williams\nSpiritual Adviser and Communications\, Ravenswood Consulting \nA 2020 study published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health links discrimination in healthcare settings to disparities in healthcare access among Indigenous people living in urban centres\, and pointed out that “critical gaps remain in our understanding of Indigenous health in Canada.” In short\, neglect\, abuse\, lack of cultural understanding and/or discrimination from healthcare practitioners means the medical needs of some Indigenous people won’t be met. By referring to an anticolonial lens\, we can review the current conditions of our healthcare system and consider how deconstructing social constructs with cultural consultations can positively impact both\, Indigenous people and the healthcare system including the professionals who work within the system. Join Celina Sqwasulwut Williams as she leads a presentation pertaining to the current healthcare system and how it can improve on its diversity and inclusion measures\, specifically for the Indigenous community. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES: \n\nExplore the current healthcare system and identify areas that need to be modernized\nDefine the role a healthcare provider plays in ensuring a safe and welcoming space\nIntroduction to implementing diverse and inclusive programming/treatment for the Indigenous community\n\nDate: March 10\, 2022 – 12pm ET\, 9am PT\nDuration: 1-hour (45-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute Q&A)\nCost: COMPLIMENTARY \nThis webinar provides 1.0 CEU credits recognized by the CACCF\, CCPA\, MDPAC\, and CVRP. \nFor more information and to register\, please visit:\nhttps://ehncanada.zoom.us/webinar/register/9016461623558/WN_HPdr-UyDTEy5HA9JXy2cCg \n
